Description
Choice 2003 vintage Eastern North Carolina red Virginias crown this jewel. Accented by sweet bright leaf and rounded by small-leafed Katerini, Bijou is married with a hint of honey before being pressed and sliced into delicate flakes. This gem requires no adornment—just time. Estimated peak: 10–15 years.
This unopened tin is now nearing its peak, having been carefully stored in my climate-controlled cellar inside a waterproof bin for nearly a decade. The aging has allowed the Virginias to deepen in character, softening their edges and enhancing the natural sweetness and complexity of the blend.
I recently sampled a similar-aged tin and found the honey-kissed red Virginias beautifully mellowed, with the Katerini adding a subtle spice and elegance. It was a refined, contemplative smoke—one that rewards patience and speaks to the blend’s original promise.
