Description

    Friends,

For your consideration is a beautiful, factory-sealed 14oz pop-top tin of Sir Walter Raleigh Special Mixture, produced by the original Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation of Louisville, Kentucky. The striking gold-and-red diagonal stripe design, bold portrait of Sir Walter, and clearly printed UPC place this tin squarely in the post-1974 era โ€” the final years when the blend was still made by its original creators before corporate transitions changed the brand forever.

Special Mixture was the โ€œSunday bestโ€ of the Sir Walter Raleigh family. Built on the same dependable mild Burley that had been an American staple since the 1920s, it was dressed with a gentle aromatic top note that made it โ€œa little richer, a little smootherโ€ (as the period ads promised). That subtle refinement gave it a softer, sweeter edge โ€” distinctly different from SWR Regular or the later blue can Aromatic version that most folks are familiar with. For years, Special Mixture filled porches, fishing docks, and card tables with a warmth that regular SWR alone couldnโ€™t quite match.

This variant has long been discontinued, and sealed 14oz tins from the Brown & Williamson years are seldom seen. This example is bright and clean, with crisp graphics and an intact pop-top lid. It has been stored in a cool, dry environment since production โ€” making it both a well-preserved piece of Americana and a true rarity for the collector.

This very blend was featured on my Pipe Appeal YouTube channel, where I cracked open a vintage early production tin: https://youtu.be/AVrXRFzBYv0?feature=shared

For the collector who enjoys nostalgia, this tin is a reminder of a time when Sir Walter Raleigh was more than just a name on the drugstore shelf โ€” it was a trusted companion to a quiet smoke among friends.

Thanks for your support, and swell smokes to you and yours always!
