JF Germain’s Plum Cake:
An old-fashioned and rare treat in the world of pipe tobacco! Prized by collectors for its heritage, distinctive preparation, and the increasing rarity of well-aged tins, this aromatic blend is notable as one of Germain’s rare departures from traditional English and Virginia-forward blends. This mixture offers a blend of six to seven different Virginias (light and dark leaf pressed and ribbon-cut) with the inclusion of dark and extra-matured Black Cavendish.
Opening a 2017 tin releases a layered aroma: fragrant dark fruit (plum, currant), hints of blackcurrant and spiced rum, subtle anise, and a whisper of floral notes reminiscent of Victorian desserts and mulled wine (aka “Plum Cake”).

Reviewer Smoking Experience:
“The smoke is initially mild with a gentle fruitiness, led by the natural Virginia tang and the special plum essence that Germain guards as a trade secret. Plum flavor mingles with undertones of licorice, vanilla, and a light floral note—not in the typical Lakeland style, but with a comforting, old-world complexity. As the bowl develops, the Virginia sweetness grows richer, supported by Cavendish’s velvety smoothness and occasional spice that tingles the palate.”

2017 tins of JF Germain Plum Cake are highly sought after due to its limited availability and reputation for aging gracefully. These are my last tins I’ll be selling.

Samuel Gawith’s 2015 Celtic Talisman:
A rare aromatic release from a company best known for its STOUT English blends, this blend combines bright and dark Virginias with Black Cavendish and a measure of Burley, infused with a wild cherry and vanilla essence.
When opened, the aroma is dark cherries mellowed in cream (sweet but not artificial!).
These 2015 limited production tins mellow beautifully, as the topping integrates more deeply with the Virginias, transforming the sweetness into a layered, subtle aromatic.
You’ll appreciate this blend for Samuel Gawith’s expertise outside its usual offerings and still deliver something uniquely refined and very British!
