Description

There is something distinctly American about a small cigar from the wartime years. Practical, well made, and meant to be enjoyed without ceremony.

The Van Bibber name reaches back into the late 1800s, when the brand was marketed as a refined yet accessible smoke. By the early 20th century it had become part of the legendary P. Lorillard Company portfolio, where it was positioned as a mild, dependable cigar offering quality at a price within reach of everyday smokers.

Advertisements from the period describe them as ā€œperfect little cigars,ā€ satisfying for a short smoke while still delivering the character of a larger cigar. That idea carried forward for decades and remains exactly how these present today.

This example is anchored firmly in history. The outer box bears an Act of Feb. 26, 1926 cigar tax stamp with a Series 112 overprint, corresponding to 1942 production and placing it directly in the WWII era.

Originally, the display box held 10 packs for a total of 50 cigars. This offering includes the original stamped counter display box along with 7 unopened packs of 5 cigars each, for 35 cigars total. The box was opened and featured on my Pipe Appeal channel, and several cigars from this same box have been enjoyed.

They have been stored carefully at approximately 65% RH. In my experience, they are mild with a gentle earthy sweetness, an easy, satisfying short smoke. My favorite way to enjoy one has simply been strolling the park with the dog. Of course, as with any vintage cigar, no guarantees are implied, but they have been properly cared for and have smoked well for me. They will be shipped with a Boveda pack to help maintain proper humidity during transit.

Please review the photos carefully, as they are an important part of the description.

Pieces like this rarely surface with an intact wartime tax stamp, surviving unopened packs, and documented storage.
