Union Square is a G.L. Pease blend produced by Cornell & Diehl. It is a straight Virginia tobacco, made from selected red and bright Virginia leaf without Perique or Latakia. It was designed to showcase the natural character of Virginia tobacco, offering flavors commonly described as naturally sweet, grassy, bready, and slightly tangy, becoming richer and more mellow with age.
Yes, Union Square is still being produced as part of the G.L. Pease Fog City Selection, although the large 8-ounce packaging shown here is an older presentation and is much less commonly encountered than current tins.
The bottom sticker reads 082718, indicating a production/packing date of August 27, 2018. As of September 2026, this tobacco has just over eight years of age, assuming the container has remained factory sealed. That amount of aging is particularly desirable for a Virginia blend, since Virginias can develop additional sweetness and depth over extended cellar time.
