Description

Tabac Benden - Bloemfontein Navy Cut 100g Factory Sealed 2024

The Bloemfontein Navy Cut: Capstan, but better

Bloemfontein was created at the initiative of Christian Probst, manager of various tobacco, cigar, and pipe shops located in Düsseldorf, Germany. It is a blend similar to the original Capstan Navy Cut.

The tobacco's name was chosen in homage to the writer JRR Tolkien, who was born in the city of Bloemfontein, South Africa, and was a great lover of Capstan.

“We got the idea for Bloemfontein after discovering old boxes of Capstan Blue from 1947,” explains Christian Probst of Tabac Benden, “But an exact copy of the blend from that time was impossible, given the age of the tobaccos and because the 1947 version contained a high dose of coumarin, which is no longer permitted today.”

Tabac Benden called upon the Dane Per Georg Jensen from Mac Baren to create this blend as close as possible to the old Capstan, which was indeed a remarkable Virginia flake — better than the current version, which is still a pretty good tobacco.
