Ashton "Celebrated Sovereign", a unicorn blend of our time that possesses the now extinct and highly coveted condimental leaf: Syrian Latakia - aka - "King of Flavor."

This luxurious English mixture blended by McClelland for Ashton's American market bears the condimental leaf with it's red wine, floral, and leathery undertones, blended together with Dubek (another variety of Basma leaf) from the Macedonian region of Greece, bright Carolina and red Virginia, and matured Black Cavendish.

"Ashton Tobacco Story:

Ashton smoking tobacco came into being in 1984 as a compliment to the Ashton Pipe C.E. McConnell Ltd., a small but renowned tobacco house in London, was selected to fashion and produce only the finest of pipe tobacco.

Both Ken and Michael "Mick" McConnell had been raised in their family's tobacco business and so possessed the knowledge and "hands on" experience that was fast fading from England. Together with William Ashton-Taylor they labored to find distinctive English Mixtures and Virginia Blends that would set Ashton Smoking Tobacco apart. That they succeeded was due in no small part to their insight into very old methods of tobacco curing "cold pressing" and "maritime carrottes" being but two examples.

When C.E. McConnell closed its doors a worthy successor had to be found - and was. The McClelland Tobacco Co. was selected to produce Ashton Smoking Tobaccos, as this tobacco house was the best in the world in the manufacture of premium pipe tobaccos. It was agreed that all original recipes were to be strictly followed, no matter the added expense. Ashton was pleased to present the six smoking tobaccos listed below:
