Production code embossed on underside of tin, appears to be: "F 481".

Through comparison to codes on several other similar tins from the same lot ... ALL of which have codes ending in either 80 or 81 ... this is likely to have been packaged in 1981. Acknowledging that the date goes against standing information available on the Internet indicating that Larus & Bro. Co., operating under the name House of Edgeworth, closed its doors for ever in 1974. There is an early UPC code, which is said to have appeared in the mid-1970s. Confusing, to be sure, and therefore we don't know the date with certainty, but it seems likely to be 1981 production ... or ... 7-plus years older than that. Regardless, this tobacco has now been aging, for approaching 50 years in the tin!!!

Condition:
Improper packing recently caused several sealed tins to have their metal lid seals breach for a portion around their perimeter. This is one of those tins. Otherwise, the metal lid still looks perfect and factory fresh. The item remains unopened and undisturbed ... but this tin is NO LONGER SEALED!

Weighs 550 gm, without clear plastic lid.

Painted side has little tiny blemishes throughout. Plated tin base has several small oxidation spots, as well as around the perimeter there. Interior moisture levels are unknown, of course, but expect to re-hydrate, given the lid breach.

Clear lid has discolored slightly from age, and has a small crack propagating at one edge, but is still flexible and holds well.

Very nice and unique display piece as a whole, or ready to be cracked open and enjoyed!
