Opening Night is a Cornell & Diehl pipe tobacco from the Cellar Series, created as a tribute to the excitement and elegance of a theatrical opening night. It is a Virginia-forward blend, combining bright and red Virginias for a naturally sweet, somewhat tangy smoke with notes often described as bread, grass/hay, dark fruit, and a touch of spice. It was sold in the large 8-ounce aging tin shown here.
The date sticker on the bottom reads 102518, which indicates a production/packing date of October 25, 2018. That makes this tin nearly eight years old as of September 2026, giving the Virginias considerable time to develop in the sealed tin.
Current production: Opening Night has been discontinued and is no longer part of Cornell & Diehl's regular production. Because it was part of the Cellar Series and was specifically packaged with aging in mind, an unopened 2018 8-ounce tin is now a desirable discontinued/aged tobacco collectible, particularly for collectors of Cornell & Diehl blends.
