Balkan Supreme is a traditional Balkan/English-style house blend from Iwan Ries & Co. of Chicago, one of America’s oldest tobacconists, established in 1857. The ribbon-cut mixture combines Virginia, Latakia, Oriental tobaccos and natural Cavendish. Iwan Ries describes it as a full-strength, smooth and rich tobacco offering a cool, long-lasting smoke. The smoky Latakia and aromatic Orientals provide the classic Balkan character, balanced by the natural sweetness of Virginia and Cavendish.
Balkan Supreme is still available from Iwan Ries today. The two older containers are the 8-ounce plastic screw-top tubs each containing the tobacco in plastic bags, for a total of 16 ounces (1 pound) of tobacco. There is no visible production date on either tub. Based on the history of the collection, they are believed to have been purchased approximately 6–8+ years ago, although the exact production date cannot be confirmed.
