Description
The material for this outstanding tobacco pipe tamper was a sterling silver dinner fork by Landers Frary & Clark. Made in New Briton, Connecticut around 1880...this repurposed beautifully into a truly stunning mother of pearl smoking tool.
The world just doesn't make nice things like this anymore... Employing Precious metals and abalone harvested from the sea, to make a dinner knife would be improbable in today's world. To put the same process to making a pipe tamper...impossible!
This tamper was made at the close of the Civil War. It has natural patina from time.
