Description
One of pipe tobacco's rare Unicorns. This tobacco shares only part of its name with the current, past 10-15 years of K&K production. Undoubtedly a condition of sale of this blend and name. Blended by James J. Fox Tobacconists, founded in 1881 in Dublin. "THE BANKER'S TOBACCO", is a Medium-Strength English Blend of carefully ribbon-cut "Burleys, Latakias, Orientals, Turkish and Virginia tobaccos gently flavored with a touch of Cuban cigar leaf wrapper". Note the lack of either EU standardized weight or caution admonitions. This tin was blended in Dublin, Ireland and likely originally sold and intended for "local" consumption in Ireland and Great Britain. The lithographed tin's lid is perfect. The tin's bottom showing only one touch of surface rust. A heavy, sealed and well cared for legacy tin of J.J. Fox Tobacconists, the preeminent Irish Tobacconists. This tin of their English Blend, "THE BANKER'S TOBACCO", dates from the 1960's. This 60 year-old, 4oz/112 g tin has been kept in cool, dry storage since it was purchased in 2015. From Pipe Tobacco reviews: "Very few blends as wonderfully put together than the Original Ireland-Made, THE BANKER'S". "Deeply rich. . .with dark and oily Cuban cigar wrapper leaf to produce a bold, heavy flavor that embraces the palate with TLC". "Utterly unrecognizable from today's German blending by Kohlhas & Kopp." "When it (still) was Irish made, sweet, round, full-bodied, but not overly strong or aggressive. "Rather this is an incredibly smooth English Mixture (one of the smoothest I've had) with an extra component of creaminess and strength from the cigar leaf". A distinguished blend for discerning pipe aficionados. No Reserve.
