Description
I am offering my Historic, Rustic, pair of used Will E Campbell Hickory pipes. These pipes are probably 90 to 100 years old.
I am not sure how original the stems are on these pipes, but they are complete and smokable. That being said I would not smoke them as they are a part of history. I would be willing to bet the one with the bamboo reed is probably correct. the other I do not know.
The stamping on the bottom of them says "Will E. Campbell" in a circle around half the bottom of the bowl beneath that is says "Maker Hopkinsville, Ky, U.S.A." Both stampings are old and light. One has a complete stamp and the other has a partial stamp, but the name is readable if you moisten the bottom of the pipe.
The following came from a Google search of Will E. Campbell Hickory Pipes:
Will E. Campbell was a folk carver from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, celebrated for his handmade hickory wood tobacco pipes in the early 20th century. These historic pipes gained notoriety in May 1932 when Campbell crafted and gifted pipes to both the imprisoned gangster Al Capone and the U.S. Marshal transporting him. Today, Will E. Campbell hickory pipes are rare folk-art collectibles. While their utilitarian value as functional pipes is moderate, their historical and antique value can vary significantly based on condition and provenance.
